Question:

I just had my wisdom teeth removed. I need some food suggestions!?

I had an infected and seriously impacted wisdom tooth. I fought the infection for 2 weeks with penicillin, but it didn't pull it all out so they went ahead and pulled it anyway (along with the other 3 wisdom teeth).

So I'm hurting really bad and I know I can't eat solids yet, but I need some help with things I can eat. I've been eating a bit of applesauce, mashed potatoes, pudding, Jello, noodles, yogurt and things of that sort...but I'm afraid I'm not getting enough nutrients.

I've started getting really shaky and feelings really really hungry and no matter how much of those things I eat I still feel that way. I've felt this way once before when I went on a bad diet and I wasn't eating healthy enough...so I'm thinking it may be as I said and I'm not getting enough nutrients

Can someone help suggest things I can eat while I'm healing that is also high in nutrients as well so I don't stay sick like this?

Thanks (also I am drinking fruit juice and gatorade and things like that)

and I can't have hot or very warm liquids either as it could remove the blood clots in the tooth sockets resulting in a dry socket.

  1. I found the slim fast milk shakes were a good alternative.. if your under weight getting the build up or complan versions of the same.. full fat milk in them will fill you up and stop the hunger.. the mouth will sort itself out soon..

  2. A few more food suggestions: bananas, oranges, mandarins, crushed pineapple and other fruits in fruit salads; porridge, milky-wet cornflakes or weetabix. You could have your yoghurt with the fruit and/or the cereals.

  3. I just got mine out a couple days ago so I know what you're going through!!!

I eat all of those things you suggested, "applesauce, mashed potatoes, pudding, Jello, noodles, yogurt", etc. and also mashed fruit and meal replacement drinks. The meal replacement drinks aren't very filling but they do give you vitamins and nutrients you need. Of course it's always better to have real food if you can manage but the meal replacement drinks do help.

Also it's really important to remember to stay hydrated and drink a lot of water! That will improve the healing process, Sometimes when you feel hungry it is just because you are dehydrated as well so drinking water will help with that.
