I just heard of this KAM (keep alive memory) does a car really learn how you drive?

is there anyway it would limit the way you drive? like cut out at a certain rpm ??

  1. KAM works in such a way that it adapts to the way you drive, for example your throttle opening (accelerator pedal pressure, that is). It does not recognise things like cut out at a certain RPM. KAM is also a volatile Memory, so upon disconnecting of battery, all memories will be erased, and had to be re-set (usually using a diagnostic tool).

    German technology has this as part of its CAN-BUS features. To learn more, do read up on CAN-BUS as used by Merc.

No it learns what is programmed into the computer first, then adjusts to real world situations, wear and tear, altitude or air density for example and fuel quality, and failure in parts and sensors, within acceptable parameters.  When the battery is disconnected, KAM is often disrupted, the car goes back to factory programmed parameters, which no longer apply, and has to relearn the feedback and info being sent to the computer module.
