I used Arctic Silver, and all that... the fan is plugged in, and starts spinning when I turn on the computer, but the pegs securing the heat sink might not be very secure, could that be it? or what? The problem with the pegs is that when i press down the one on one side, the one on the other side pops out, so I kind of got them both half in... but I don't know if that's very secure.

I have an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (brand new), it is the right socket, a 775, and my power source is a 500W Vortex. I have 3 gigs of DDR2 RAM

  1. Its a common problem with the 775 socket, you have to use alot of force to get those clips in. Check out this Video it might help you.

    Good luck

  2. I would say that yes, it's your CPU heat sink that's not making a very good connection. I had this problem with my old computer, I had to tie wrap the CPU heat sink to the motherboard. I'm sure that's not very good for it, but the clips were broken and it's garbage Pentium 4 anyways lol.

Try getting it all of the way in.

Are you using an aftermarket cooler? Or is it from another processor?

  3. Its overheating!!

Press them down at the same time. You might need to turn them 90 degrees. Get someone to help you if needed
