  1. i guess that's in mannheim, have you guys ever been stationed somewhere around the world... if not it would def. help to get some basic info in general but if u already been stationed elsewhere then u'd be fine just learning stuff about germany..

  2. It's no wonder you don't find any information about U.S. military areas in Germany on the net; that's blocked for safety reasons.

Now, as a German who has known some G.I.s stationed here in Bavaria in times of the "cold war", what advice can I give you other than your husband will be absolutely safe and welcome in Germany? I've never been to Mannheim town (yes, I passed it on the Autobahn when I myself was a soldier at an army unit in Koblenz), but I don't know the city.

Mannheim is a rather boring town, so people tell me, but they have some nice places to go out and have a drink. There's nothing special about it, really (although born Mannheimers may contradict me). It's just a rather boring, common central European town, with no special racism or anti-Americanism going on. Your husband will be safe, but MIGHT feel a bit bored after, let's say, two or three weeks.

  3. It's in Mannheim, Baden-Württemberg, check out the links.

  4. Hi, my husband is stationed on Coleman.  If you love to travel Coleman is located in Mannheim Germany which is a central location in Germany..perfect to travel and explore. Ive been here 2 years and I have to admit, Im ready to leave but the experience here has been amazing. If you can, try to live off base...housing is horrible and its the biggest mistake we made coming here. If you are looking to find a job check this site out :www.cpol.army.mil.  Mannheim is a great place, Coleman barracks is kind of dirty but the area here is nice. I prefer Heidelberg which is only 20 minutes away...Kaiserslautern about an hour....lots of great things to do and see while you are here!!

  5. It's one of several small barracks/bases in the Mannheim area, and the Heidelberg area (Heidelberg is very close to Mannheim).  You're relatively close to other nearby cities, like Mainz, Wiesbaden, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Karlsruhe, Trier, Koln (Cologne), and Saarbrucken.  You're also close to the French border (the town of Strasbourg is practically right over the border), plus not too far from Luxembourg, Belgium, Switzerland, and the Netherlands, in that order.  Munich is a few hours away.  You're perhaps 5 hours away from Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Bern, and Prague... more or less.  Liechtenstein and Austria aren't all that much farther.  Berlin's farther away, about 6 or 7 hours away, and Poland about another hour beyond it.  Denmark's about the same distance.  All told, you're ideally situated in the center of Europe, and there's no limit to what you can do.  Just don't let the doldrums of Army life get to you there.  Traveling around was my main escape from letting my brain lose too many cells from the daily nonsense of Army life.

  6. Well we are going to Hohenfels but  i do have some advice. TRAVEL lol Germany is a wonderful place and very beautiful. A lot of army wives stay on base and complain about how boring Germany is. I have been to  Germany twice (Baumholder and Bamberg) my dad was in the army for 20 years. Me and my husband plan on traveling our hearts out lol. A lot of Germans know English and they are very nice people. If you have any other questions just ask

  7. It's a beautiful area and people are pretty nice (although you can't expect them to run out and hug you when you first meet them. Just be friendly and polite but not sticky sweet - they hate that.)  The food in that area is excellent too, and when you get sick of the weather, you can easily take a vacation to Spain or South of France!

  8. Try this page as well. It's in English...
