I'm gonna get an OHP to go on the curtain rail & beam a big picture onto the opposite white wall 15 feet away

Ya don't need a TV set these days!

  2. You may need a booster, there is a plug in type for about £10.

Try borrowing one before you buy.

  3. re scan . check in correct socket and box to t.v. is secure .

  4.    If it's a flat, it could be a communal aerial. This would result in a weakened signal.

Best thing to do would be to invest in an aerial signal booster.

        Hope this helps.

  5. I used to work for OnDigital and this is a common problem. Even if the ariel is pointed at the correct transmitter there will be cables coming down to all the flats. The digital signal is a weak one and needs one cable from the ariel  to your box, not multiple ones. The only solution is for you to buy an ariel for yourself and have it aligned properly, or install sky freesat, we got ours for a one off payment of £150.

  6. Consider Digital Satellite TV (it's free.)

  7. bin it

  8. It's probably aimed at a different transmitter compared to your previous flat.

    Do a complete channel scan

  9. You will probably need an amplifier.

The cabling is probably garbage in the building.

    The aerial may be misaligned.

In europe, terrestrial signal are vertically polarized, and american style horizontal aerial will not work (because us transmissions are horizontally polarized)....so make sure they are using the proper aerial and that it stands vertically.

  10. its probably a weak signal due to the flat blocking its path. you should get a booster or freesat.

  11. The signal is weak - a booster almost certainly wont help.  The only answer is to go on cable tv or Freesat (if your landlord will allow it).

  12. In flats the tv signal is usually routed through a distribution amplifier from the main antenna to all the flats in the block, and that means that the signal level usually falls. That's why when you plug straight into the tv you get something because it's not coming via the distribution amplifier. Try a booster amplifier. You may also be in a weak signal area. Also try moving the aerial around and then retuning each time with Freeview until you start to pick some channels up. Or you may need to buy a special digital antenna, but they are quite cheap.
