  1. First I would suggest you find a "local to you" homeschool support group, and also a statewide one, run by homeschoolers.  Those already homeschooling can guide you best and can translate any actual laws that might be confusing to someone new.

This ONE list has a ton of info to get you started.

    Good luck, and ENJOY!!

  2. The Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) website will give you information on how to legally homeschool in the state of Alabama and on how to get started wtih homeschooling; the link is below.

    http://www.hslda.org/laws/default.asp?St...

Following is a link to a website which lists Alabama church schools:

I hope this information is helpful.

  3. I agree go to HSLDA web site, they will direct you to your state.  Don't have to be a member to use their site.  Used to live in Alabama myself and know that there are homeschoolers down there.  Also get connected with a homeschool group they will be able to show you how to log your hours and what hours you need to log.  Also listed is the HSLDA link for AL.  Good luck I know that you can do it.

  4. Last year I home schooled my 10 year old daughter for fifth grade.  After having to move out of state I felt it was unfair to just place her into another school without knowing if she was on the same level as the other students, or how she would react to the trauma children go through (at least mine) in swapping to a new school.  I first found a church that did all of the paperwork (usually very little tuition - $10 PER month) and I enrolled her.  I was required to teach her at least 4 hours per day, but I always exceeded that amount to advance her to the point she needed to be.  Every six weeks I averaged her grades, wrote out a summary of the activities we covered (only required once a semester) and then I made sure they were turned in to the church secretary.   Also be prepared to pay up front for the end of the year testing that are required at all public schools - just so you know that your child is headed in the right direction (total enrollment - i believe was $55).  There are different places you can order your books or testing materials.  I ordered the books, and made test on my own.  I think homeschooling helped my daughter exceptionally because when she went into school this year, she has really been on top of her work  (a's & b's)- unlike all of the previous years due to her attention span an social skills. What part of Alabama?

  5. Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but for the State of Alabama the only way to LEGALLY homeschool is to use an Umbrella School.

An Umbrella school is a school that holds all the paperwork (attendance, grades, so forth), charges a fee and provides you with a curriculum (( I'm sure you knew that but just in case)).

The reason I know this is because I had planned to move there UNTIL I saw their homeschool laws. The rule covers the ENTIRE state.

I have homeschooled for 4 yrs and while I will visit Alabama ( Ivy Green- Helen Keller's Birthplace), you couldn't pay me to move there with the stupid laws they have regarding schooling.

**** I am NOT calling the people in the state stupid, just the LAWS******

    I wish you luck

  6. please call your education dept  as every state is different

  7. I am homeschooling right now. i dont beleive you need to do anything to legally homeschool. the homeschool course i am taking is American school. all you have to do is call the enrollent number and they will send you information on the courses you have to complete to graduate. It is legal and you will get you diploma. (708) 418-2800
