  1. Ocean shores is popular, in southeast Washington. They have miles of beach - good for flying kites, horseback rentals, scooters, etc.

A drive that I like to make is up to Sedro Wooley then take highway 20 over the North Cascades pass (this pass closes in winter, so check before you go) and stop off in Winthrop. Then I travel down 97 to I90 then back to Seattle. You can do the drive in a day if you pushed it, but for a weekend there are plenty of campgrounds and hotels.

There's the San Juan Islands. Instead of turning east on 20, turn west to Anacortes and take the ferry. It's quiet there, lots of nature, lots of B&B's and a couple first rate resorts.

The Oregon coast is a great place with Canon Beach, Lincoln City, the Tillimook creamery, camping, beach combing, shopping, etc.

  2. If you like the outdoors, come on over to Port Angeles on the Olympic Peninsula (take Bainbridge ferry from Seattle and follow 103 to 104 to 101 and on in to Port Angeles)  Great Camping, the Hoh Rain forest, Olympic National Park, the lavender in Sequim (just before Port Angeles) and really nice people.  Another hour west and you are on the beach.  Visit Neah Bay, the furthest northwest point in the continental U.S.

If you find your passports, you can catch the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria Canada.
