  1. Congrats Kat.....I must say I loved the experience of getting into a car which I had bought a week after passing my test. Some years ago now....

You have to be confident in yourself....Go for it!

Tips. Relax....You are in charge. You can stop any time....pick some quiet roads and just drive. Make sure you have enough petrol.

  2. Drive around where there are not much traffic. Get a feel of the car your are using. e.g. steering wheel turning sensitivity and radius, braking power, does the car has any blind spots (if you are driving a big vehicle such as SUVs or pick-up trucks).

You have to do this. Sooner or later you'll have to drive by yourself.

  3. Just drive around your local area first take your time dont let anybody pressurize you into going places you feel uncomfortable to go and enjoy yourself also well done to you

  4. Congratulations. I just passed mine a few weeks ago and I was nervous about getting into the car by myself. But I had no choice. Try picking a certain time of day when traffic is light and drive around your neighborhood. That's what I did. When I got in the car, I adjusted everything to the way I liked it and made sure that I was comfortable. I drove around my neighborhood and the local school since I was now responsible for taking my daughter to school. Hubby's shift at work got changed to early morning so I passed my test at the perfect time. You can always make a quick run to the store and back. If you can get from point A to point B and back home, you've done it. I still get nervous behind the wheel because you never know what kind of drivers are on the road with you sometimes. Good luck and drive safely!

  5. When I first passed my test (many moons ago admittedly!) firstly I had to drive through one of the worst traffic spots in London at that time (Hammersmith Broadway) on the way home from the test - on my own, and that evening, I took a full car down to Southend. That involved driving through the evening rush hour right across London, then on to some busy stretches of "A" roads - and then driving back in the dark.

After that, I NEVER had ANY problems about nervousness so I suggest you get out and go for a long drive. ENJOY ! ! !

The next day I drove up the M1 to Birmingham and back.

  6. Congrats..... I went loopy when I passed......just get in the car ... when you feel ok drive round the block.. not too far ... then go inside and have a cuppa... then do it again you will still realise you are enjoying it.... it will all come in time.....but dont let it get too long before you brave it otherwise you might loose all confidence... why not try the pass plus... helps on insurance too..good luck

  7. first of all CONGRATULATIONS.just drive round a quiet area then build up from there.good luck :-)

  8. just take ya time hun, well done.

  9. Congrats.

See if you can your family member or friend to sit in the car with you.

Drive in a quite road or late evening or early morning.

Drive around  car park of say Tesco or Sainsbury.

Thgis way you will build your confidence.

  10. congrats!!!!

i passed mine in january!!! it was snowing and i was sooo scared!.....

start out in low traffic roads like back roads or country roads or neighborhood roads, but watch out for animals... nothing would put a damper more than hitting a rabbit or a cat.

just pretend that your parent is still there... or drive with an older or younger sibling to get the hang of driving without your mom of dad. don't worry about it. you'll do fine!

  11. Just get in and drive.

It's weird, but I found it a lot easier driving without somebody scrutinising every move I made. You'll soon get into it.

    Enjoy yourself!

  12. congratulations,

ask someone ou know and feel comfortable with to go a drive with you,

to be honest in my case i felt more nervous when i had ppl in the car with me,

try staying local till your used to driving dont go anywhere you dont know the road till you feel confident driving,

  13. if you have legs in real life as in that icon picture then take me with you i'll get you over your nerves :)

  14. Well done!

Get in the car at a quiet time of day and try driving some of the routes that are familiar to you from your driving lessons. You could even try a few manoevres like reversing round corners, turning in the road and parking. Listen to the memory of your instructor's voice and talk to yourself if necessary. Listen to the engine and not loud music until you really know your vehicle.

Take it easy, it's strange to be on your own at first - now you can really learn to drive.
