I just purchased a 4pin 6pin lead. 4 pin connects 2 my video camera fine but 6 pin cant fit anywher on laptop?

I can't plug it into the the two inputs on the side/back (you know like to connect USB lead or memory key, I have a Dell laptop). There is another input which is next to the double inputs on the right side? But it's too big so the 6 pin doesn't fit. What's the problem? Is this to do with needing a firewire card? What is a firewire card then? Could someone link me up to a good ebay item for it (if it's not too much trouble). Thanks ;)

Laptops have a 4 pin firewire port if any at all. So you would need a 4 pin to 4 pin cable. So if your Dell has a firewire port, see if you can exchange your cable for the correct one.

Your laptop needs a firewire port installed. Computers don't come with one. Just google laptop firewire card.
