  1. He should have been to the vet last week for his first puppy shot. Apparently the person who sold you the puppy wasn't a very good breeder. She should have also told you what you needed to do and what to tell the vet. Go to the vet and tell him you bought a puppy from someone who neglected to give first shots, and probably didn't bother worming the puppy either.

  2. You need to first go to the vet and see to it's medical health-you know, see if it has mange, rabies:it most likely will have any of those problems if you bought it from a breeder, but it's better safe than sorry. If you got it from a pet pound,it's a definite must to get it's medical backgrounds-if you don't take care of it's health properly,he will be unhappy. But if you've never purchased and/or owned a dog in your life, when it comes to clipping its nails, buy a new deal called the "Peticure".Hope I was of assistance.

  3. Did he have his first shots at 6 weeks with the breeder?  You need to find that out if you don't know.

He needs a vet check-up ASAP to make sure he's in good health, whether he's due for vaccinations yet or not.

Do some reading about vaccines -- it's not necessary to pump your puppy with the whole nine yards of shots.  Definitely ask the vet to leave out the lepto vaccination -- boxers tend to be sensitive to it (my boxer pup nearly died from a vaccine-induced allergic reaction when she was 11 weeks old -- caused by lepto) and it seems after lots of research that the vaccine doesn't do much good anyways.

Also, you must have a look at this site.  It's absolutely the best boxer resource you will find.

Per your 2nd comment, the CORE vaccines that she most definitely needs are Parvo, Distemper, and Rabies.  Rabies isn't given until her 3rd round of shots, so you don't have to worry about that one yet.  All others are non-core vaccines.  Check the website I linked above (the first one) for more detailed descriptions of the non-core vaccines and there risks/benefits.

  4. He should have already had some shots.  You should have been given this info when you bought him.  Plus dewormed.  Also, the pup shouldn't leave the mom until at least 8 weeks, so I'm not sure what kind of "breeder" sold you a 7 week pup.

Your dog needs to see a vet.  Not only to start the shot and deworm process, but also because he's too young.

  5. JDnBRIzMome, I haven't had any problems with my boxer.

  6. I really hope you didn't buy from a puppy mill - not that you would knowingly, but sometimes people can disguise them. If so, you may have a lot of vet visits in your future.

Your puppy is due for his first set of shots - and another booster a month or so later and finally a rabies vaccine. You'll probably want to get heartworm meds too.

Your vet will probably also want to do bloodwork to make sure he doesn't have any diseases. Also, be prepared to bring a stool sample, and the vet will probably worm your dog and want you to buy flea medication. You should, because boxers are huge and will be outside a lot. Your vet may also suggest having the dog microchipped.

Your first trip to the vet will probably be expensive since you are playing catch-up. After that, you'll be okay.

  7. Puppies usually have their first shot at 6-8 weeks while at the breeders and then again at 12 weeks and the final booster including rabies at 16 weeks. You will also need to deworm him but the vet will be able to help out more there as it goes according to weight. Depending on where you live you will also need to looking into heartworm and flea meds and I would recommend starting looking for a good obedience class for him to start his socialization off on the right foot
