I get the message PROTECTED on the front of my recorder. I can understand this if it's a movie but why can't I record my soaps? What use is this thing? I paid $369.00 for this thing on sale and I am NOT happy.

  1. If it says protected, then the studio does not want people to record their tv shows. the copyright laws make it so that ppl cant record shows when a program is flagged. Doesn't matter if its a movie, tv show or a football game.

You should probably stick with a vcr.

  2. Make sure the video input is not coming from another device that protects its output.

For example, directly from antenna should work. Input from a VCR may not work. Output from a set-top box should work depending on the channel and the video port (for example, it may allow you to record from composite but not from component).

  3. Boy, thats some smart recorder.
