  1. Broadcast TV is free and much of it is in HD.

If cable or satellite want extra money for HD and you want what they offer, you pay more.

  2. Does this older model have an HD tuner built in, or is it merely "HD ready?"

If your HD t v does not have a digital tuner built in, there are tuners available for it at places like Best Buy, Amazon.com, etc.

If your t.v. is already capable of receiving HD signals, you need an antenna.  If you are in a situation where you can put an antenna on the roof or in an attic, I would strongly recommend that, since HD signals don't travel as far as the old analog ones.  If you have to use an indoor antenna, you will probably only be able to pick up local stations.  If the transmitter is more than 30 miles away, forget it.  If you are confined to using an indoor antenna, I recommend this one:

I just got one myself last week, and I'm very pleased with it.  It isn't pretty, but it's effective, and I found the folks at Radio Shack very helpful

  3. i think u can buy an hd antenna to receive hd signals over the air. but i have a fairly new hdtv and i get dish network hd programming and its great!
