I am working on the car and I noticed Ive never seen a motor like this before, any clues..... Its an aluminum head and valve cover 4 cylendar. It says pontiac right across the top. The block says super duty. The distributor cap is from an 8 cylendar but four holes are plugged up. Any clues what this motor may have come from.

  1. Pretty sure the super duty four was available for a while in the early 80s firebird. Why it has a v8 cap is beyong me. Maybe redneck inginuity or a way to get more advance or r****d in the timing?

  2. It's a Pontiac Super Duty four. It was never offered in a production car. It comes from GM performance parts here is a link to some info.

You need to contact whoever ran the car before for all the specs. For the engine you need valve lash, timing etc. and a maintenance schedule. When you buy a car you need to get all the setup information or you will waste lots of time trying to get a baseline.

    good luck!
