  1. Emo can mean different things to different groups.

It was not a compliment, as you already know.  Just consider the source it came from.

Each generation has a slang term for anyone that is not in their category of "cool" or in group.

In the old days emos were squares....nerds.

As one of the old "squares" trust me, what they think is not important, the most important thing is how you feel about yourself.

Try to fast forward your life ten years or even a year from now, will what "they" say really matter....I think not...good

    luck to you...and hang in.

  2. I think it's like goth, but less freaky. Whiners? I can't listen to that music. I understand it would make you angry, but it's just a word, and if you take it that seriously it means you give stuff like that way too much credence. They're just kids, and kids like to label things so they can form an identity. Unless you're a kid or are still searching to 'find yourself' I'd say just be like, yeah, whatever, I'm not an emo, emo's are dorks. if that's how you feel.

  3. First- being called emo is not in itself an insult.  There's a huge group of young people who consider themselves "emo" and who are fairly proud of it.  It's a behavioral type that has to do with an emotional, sensitive and sometimes "whiney" personal style.  People made fun of me for years for using my vocabulary... well, I have smarter friends now.  And the rest, well, they can watch Dancing with the Stars and Smackdown for all I care.  Keep reading-
