He has been in it for a little more than a week. He eats his collard greens and carrots, but he has not gone to the bathroom in 9 days. I am worried, is this normal for when they go into a new habitat.

  1. Most iguanas like to p**p in water.  Do you have a large pool (like a cat litter pan size or larger) for him to soak in?  Also, keep humidity up by misting twice a day--these are tropical animals.  What are your temps?  Basking temps of about 100F are important.  Is your cage tall?  It should be 1.5 times the length of the iguana in height.  Make sure the UVB bulb is large enough and is changed every 6 months.  He must be able to get within 12 inches of it.  He needs much more balanced diet--see this link for complete diet info:

  2. He may need some laxatives! See your vet.

  3. he is waiting for you to letim out so THENNN he'll "go"

  4. Hi,

Take him outside and give him some privacy. If he doesn't go when he's out of his cage and all alone, you need to take him to a vet.

Good Luck and you are more than welcome to email me and let me know how your iguana is doing!

  5. he may be stressed because of his new house. feed him once a day, & leave him alone. don't keep constantly checking on him, that will only stress him out more. if you can handle him easily, run a couple of inches of warm not hot water, in the bath tub, let him soak for 1/2 hour or so. that should loosen him up. if that doesn't work  i strongly suggest taking him to a vet.  hope that helps.
