Question:

I just re-formatted my computer. I have a Netgear WPN-111 USB WI-Fi adapter and now it's not recongnized??

I installed the drivers for it too. Is there a windows patch or somthing I need to download?

  1. May be the USB ports are not properly recognized. Does any of your other USB devices getting recognized? You may want to reinstall the USB from the device manager.

    1. Restart the computer and press the F8 key repeatedly after the first screen displays. A Startup screen displays.

    2. Select Safe Mode and press Enter . Windows starts with Safe Mode displayed in all four corners of the desktop.

    3. Right-click My Computer , and click Properties .

    4. Click the ( + ) plus sign next to the Universal Serial Bus .

    Select USB Root Hub , and then click Remove . Continue until all USB Root Hubs are removed.

    5. Close Device Manager .

    6. In Windows 98 and Me, click Start , click Find , and click Files or Folders . In Windows XP, click Start , click Search , and then click all Files and Folders .

    7. Set the Look in box to Local Hard (C:; D:) .

    8. In the Named box type usb.inf , and then click Find Now .

    9. Right-click USB , then Install .

    10. Restart the computer and verify that the USB Root HUB exists in Device Manager.

    11. Install the device software driver using the manufacturer's recommended method.

    12. Reconnect the USB device.


  2. You say you have installed drivers for the adapter but what about the usb controller or hub? Try going to the maker of your computer (Dell, Sony, HP, etc.) and download all drivers.
