I read in the news about gunmen killing the police chief of local mazatlan police in the middle of a drug raid. I have gone to mazatlan many times and have always felt safe, but this year I am a bit concerned. I am going this week, are there any precautions I should take or should I be worried? Please tell me what you may think.

  1. worried? I'd say just cautious, as any one traveling in a foreign country should be... especially at night.

  2. The rest of the story...

It was an assasination. Other police spotted the gunmen and chased them to the Gran Plaza.  They tried to get into Fabricas Francia but were put off by the Security Guard with an assault rifle.  They then went to the food court area and held 12 pople there hostyage but then quickly fled out a back door and out of town.

Don't worry be happy and enjoy your vacation!

We go every year and there have been isolated incidents that involve men from the drug cartels and police who are trying to shut them down.  Most of these occurences occur in the rural areas.
