  1. Yes, it's true.  Michael Iavarone, one of his owners, said the chances of Big Brown running as a 4-year-old were “none.”  The article is linked below.

  2. It sure is pure greed, especially since the breeding rights will be sold today (May 15). The owners couldn't even wait till after the Preakness.

  3. Haven't heard that officially. I don't think that is something that is even proper to announce at this time.

As a Derby winner he is going to have a high stud fee - so really there is no reason to race him beyond the Triple Crown races. He could retire now and make more in stud fees than he ever would on the track - which is why Derby winners rarely race at 4.

He's a near lock for the Preakness as well since the race has come up soft.

There might be a small temptation to race him in the Breeders Cup Classic in the fall if he fails in the Preakness or Belmont - but beyond that it would be very surprising to see him continue on.

If he wins the Triple Crown he will retire immediately and get huge stud fees.

  4. Greed.I hope it's not true but it's what I expected. It's a sad fact of today's horse racing industry. The horses are worth more at stud than in racing, the days of seeing a true champion are gone...and they wonder why horse racing is dieing sport. I have respect for the owners of Curlin who have chosen not to retire hin as a three year old or four year old.
