  1. I just use Saccharin it's the cheapest and no studies any longer link it to cancer. As the answerer stated above, you have to consume so much to put yourself at risk that it is not physically possible. I drink green tea with Saccharin. Put five green tea bags in a gallon container out in the sun for four-five hours and then chill and add Saccharin to taste. It's so good you'll want to put a needle of it in your vein (no subliminal reference there).

  2. I use Splenda, it tastes so much closer to real sugar, and Splenda sweetened coke is yummy. It is derived from sugar.

Aspartame has wierd aftertaste and it breaks down to methanol and formaldehyde in your body, cause neurological disorders and such.

  3. 1) Aspartamic Acid (Aspartame, Nutrasweet, etc.) has been linked in some studies to an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's.

    2) Saccharin (Sucaryl, Sugar Twin, Sweet-N-Low) has been linked in some studies to an increased risk of cancer - however it seems you would have to consume more than is physically possible to actually get the risk.

    3) Splenda is derived from natural sugar.  So far I haven't seen any studies linking it to any problems.

My preference, being diabetic but controlled with meds and diet, is to use either Splenda, real sugar or honey in reasonable amounts and avoid the aspartami acid and the saccharin.
