  1. I would set it aside for medical school, become a doctor and then then open a clinic on your nearest reservation. That way, you're saving the money to educate yourself, to better help your people. That's rather unselfish.

Otherwise, I would find a charity that uses money to give native people health care, dental care, that sort of thing... I know it can be really tough out there for the natives.

All the money they could offer would never be enough.

    Good luck.

  2. The $5000 is nothing, I agree.  It should have been much more.  While it is thoughtful of you to want to do something for others I feel you should keep it for yourself and your family.  Make it grow, save it.  Sit on it until you have been practicing awhile.  Since you are still a student you might need it for an unforeseen event.

  3. Im with Longhair on this one

  4. Put it aside.

Med school is expensive, and who knows what's down the road?

Have you priced the obligatory malpractice insurance lately?

  5. I think I know how you feel.  You want to make the money count for something meaningful for the longterm.  The amount is enough to make a great start.  I'm half human being myself.  Therefore, since you're studying to be a doctor, it should be medically related, and depending on the circumstances of your tribe, you might consider asking for professional advice on starting a nonprofit fund/org for the specific purpose you eventually choose, such as:  providing essential vitamins to Indian youth, selective education for gifted students so they can also 'payback' to their people when educated, or something of this rationale.  Good luck!  You are thinking like a true warrior.

  6. I think it's noble that you want to give the money to a charitable cause.  I would say contact the leaders/elders of the reservation where you grew up or your tribal council.  See what initiatives they have going on that need funding and then see what you shoud do in order to be a donor.  Peace to you.

  7. I would have to agree with Moody on this one. Check with the rez and see if it is needed there or donate some or all to a local food pantry or rescue mission in your city.

I work in thge food pantry in my church and we distribute over four thousand pounds of food a month and most we buy from the red cross.

We can get quite a bit of food for three or four hundred dollars though so if you feel so inclined to donate a portion to a food bank, soup kitchen or rescue mission in your city.

  8. You could treat your family to or with something special, that they would  never get or do for themselves, or;  You could  get something for the reserve, that you moved from, something that they might be lacking and in need of. It is always good to remember where you came from and to help out in anyway you can when you can.  It is also a great motivator for the youth,  I think that it is great that you want to do something with the money that is unselfish.
