I just received my drivers license after not having it for 6 years.?

My license was revoked in 2002 for a registration/insurance violation.

I never took care of it and the license expired in 2003. I took care of it last month and got a new license this week.

I am married, and have been for 4 years. We have two vehicles both in my husbands name. Will it cause the insurance to go up when I call the insurance company to let them know that I am a licensed driver now. I have never had any tickets or accidents, but did have my license revoked in '02 and didn't have a license for 6 years. Just wondering how the insurance company will look at this.?????

  1. Go to your insurance company's web-site and look under the FAQ's.  You might not have to report to them that you are a licensed driver.  My insurance company only wants to know if there is a licensed driver between 16 and 25 living in the house.

If you do have to report it, then they might raise your insurance, but you might be able to find that out on their web-site, too.

  2. depending on what state your in, but in most cases yes your husbands insurance will go up, the insurance company will consider you a new driver no matter how long you been driving check with you local insurance company for a quote.

  3. You should just be able to add on to present policy no questions asked.  Feel free to shop around if your current supplier increases your premium

  4. Depends on the company, but most will consider you newly licensed.  Explaining that you're not really a new driver and that your license was suspended because of an administrative thing doesn't really help your case since companies don't look favorably on insurance violations either.  You're probably better off getting added to the policy though, if you have an accident when you're not listed the company can cancel the policy.
