  1. Many if not most ancient cultures on occasion practiced human sacrifice. The Aztecs & Mayans just were particularly profficient at it! (most cultures only seemed to do it irregularly, possibly on a cycle, perhaps when crops failed or evil befell the tribe.)

remember the frozen Ice man found in the Italian Dolomites a few years back? he was 5000 years old and it appears he may have  been a sacrifice, shot in the back by arrows as he was kneeling in a high mtn pass. Researchers came to this conclusion because his axe-very  precious with its copper blade-was left near him instead of being stolen if it had just been a murder. There was also a contemporary menhir found with carvings that showed this very event.

  2. Oh, no. I couldn't site examples right now, but there were several, I believe.

    Great movie, wasn't it?!

  3. Human sacrifice was Hugely widespread back then--many cultures practiced it to appease the gods.

I thought Apocalytpo was well done and I really enjoyed it---not many movies like that one, i'll tell ya!

  4. HEY! I JUST WATCHED THAT 2 NIGHTS AGO!!!.

but that was SO nasty when she gave birth to her child IN THE WATER!!! ew! and then it showed that chord thing attatched to it! yuck!

  5. Mayans did as well.

  6. No, you are wrong.

  7. no there were others. in the americas there were mayans, aztecs, chavin, moche, etc. in europe the celtics perfomed human sacrifice as well as others. there is also strong evidence that the anasazi in the southwest practiced human sacrifice and ritual cannibalism.

  8. There are many many civilazations that did this. Even a few may still be out there.

The Aztech and Mayans did this.

Some ancient Indians, in what is now USA, did this as well.

  9. The blood cult was prevalent throughout central and south American cultures.

  10. It's a movie, for gosh sakes.

  11. I saw Apocalypto a couple of times , i think but iam not to sure that maybe the Mayans also did human sacrifices , their is also the olmecs and the incas . The Aztec's , Mayans , and the Inca's were the three greatest native american civilzation to exist . They thrive in what is called the " Pre - Columbian " era - or i think .  I do not know if the inca's or the olmecs did human sacrifices or not , try going to wikipedia.com

  12. In Apocalypto these were Aztec... the Mayan civilization disappeared 100s of years before Cortez landed (notice those ships at the end of the movie).  The Aztec were noted for their Jaguar Warriors that terrorized surrounding tribes. I'll get you some referrance material on that.

"Archaeologists have long known that the Maya, who flourished between about A.D. 250 and 900, perfected the most complex writing system in the hemisphere, mastered mathematics and astrological calendars of astonishing accuracy, and built massive pyramids all over Central America, from Yucatan to modern Honduras."

    On the Aztec:

Inca, Aztec & Maya all had human sacrifice, but the Aztec had mass sacrifices, rather than a few every so often.

  13. Most of the Andean and Mesoamerican cultures had human sacrifices; including the Aztec, Toltec, Inca, Maya, Mixtec, Zapotec cultures.
