It was white. And it looked, well, backwards. The smaller wings were in the front and the larger wings in the back. There were also two engines in the larger wings. The windshield was over the smaller wings in the front. It was probably the size of a Cessna or the like. It make more of a high-pitched noise. What was that? Where can I find info on it?

  1. Only one of the answers above comes even close.  The most likely answer is that it was a Vairi-E-Z or a Long-E-Z.

Surf through this web site and see if you don't see what you are looking for.

Guys, there are no Beech Starships left flying.

  2. looks like a Northrop X-29, it's got one engine only, maybe this one's another version of their experimental forward-swept wing fighter plane. the X-29 was actually conceived from the F-5 'Tiger', which is twin-engined, and the 'Tigershark' which is single-engined.

  3. UFO? or possibly some military hoax thing

  4. Could be a Piaggio P-180 Avanti

The noise you heard was probably the two turbine engines it uses to turn the propellers.

First time I saw one, I said the same thing.  "That thing is backwards!"

  5. Might be a Beech Starship, or the new Honda bizjet.

The wings in front are called "canards" and this is not that unusual a design.  The homebuilt VariEze also has canards.

Militarily the SAAB AJ/JA37 Viggen also had canards, and the Mirage 2000 has, small, canards as well.

  6. It was probably an experimental home-built plane.  Here's some examples:

  7. It sounds like a Beech Starship designed by Burt Rutan.

*Edit: There are still a few Starships flying, as of the summer 2007 five Starships continue to fly. Two Starships are based in Oklahoma, one in Kentucky, one in Washington, and one in California.

  8. Air force 1

  9. it was a jet flying backwards

  10. Sounds like you saw a plane with Forward swept wings.
