I just saw this on the news: agree or disagree with his idea?

A kid born with disabilities because of a drug addict mother has an idea about welfare. All welfare recipients will be randomly drug tested; if they fail they are offered help while if they refuse their benefits are revoked.

I like this idea.

  1. All drug/alcohol addiction is indicative of a deep rooted psychological problem. The research has been done and that is a proven fact .

Addicts are self medicating, with either legal or illegal drugs. Alcohol is the drug that causes the most damage and it is legal.

I would think if the money that is spent on the "war on drugs", was spent on treatment the problem could be dealt with in a more productive way.

The children must be taken out of the care of these people.

Foster care may be the best way to do that.

The most beneficial way. This could be supported by the monies now being used for welfare benefits that the addicts are receiving. Those monies are now being use to purchased drugs or alcohol anyway, supporting the addictions. The tax payer has become a unknowing "enabler".

At this point the government is dealing with the symptoms and not the root problem. So I really see no solution.

  2. It sounds like a good idea, but then so do CCTV cameras and ID cards ~ until we see and think about the negatives.

Who 'eventually' has control of them and of the data they stored ...and How will it be used and Against Whom?

How about a CCTV in every room!¬ After all, if you've nothing to hide, you've nothing to be afraid of, and it will help keep you and your family safe ....won't it!

How's about your cellphone!  Do you know that you can actually have you phone surgically implanted? Not as it is, but a miniature version, and you won't need to muck about with keys as you can call anyone, anywhere and at anytime through your voice control system, and your calls will cost next to nothing.

Of course, everything that you say can be taped / monitored, and 'wherever you are' can be pinpointed exactly ...For Your Own Safety, of course.

Why should anyone want to do all of this?  Well, that all depends upon just whom it is that hold the Political reins. And by that time, it may well be too late to object.

    Sash.

  3. It is a great idea but would take a lot of workers to make it happen. Then helpless children would not get food or a place to live because their parents are substance abusers.

What would you do about them?

  4. its a bit harsh.

most people on benefits are not drug addicts and genuinely find themselves in hard times. like those with mental or physical disabilities or single parents who have been abandoned by selfish partners and would starve if they had to pay childcare while working.

the government is always looking for ways to cut costs and automatically target those who are already disenfranchised and marginalised by society.

the american govt policy of forcing welfare mums to work 2 low paid jobs in return for benefits has led to neglected kids who turn to drugs and crime. exactly how is this cost effective??

  5. i think anyone with drug abuse and is on welfare should be given free birth control ! I know some people fall on hard times, that i can understand but to  use drugs when you are with child is mental illness!!!!

  6. either way you look at it the kids get hurt, if the parents takes that money and uses it for drugs the child is harmed. If the parents is revoked the child suffers. Maybe supervised living community could work...
