i was a gymnast for 6 yrs. in seventh grade, i started diving. i just finished my second season. i am in eighth grade now.

my best score was 120.86

is this a good score considering my experience? i dive every day for 45 mins, but my coach is kind of soft on us.

so is this good?

my dives were:

one and a half (front, piked)

dive (back, straight)

dive half twist (front, piked)

dive (inward, piked)

somersault (front, piked)

somersault (back, straight)

  1. That's not a bad score for your level of experience.  Are you doing club diving? Or just at school?

With diving, the more you can practice, the better, because your body and mind develop a feeling of being more "automatic" in your dives with the repetitions.   If you can find a club near you, that's a good thing to do.  Try usadiving.org for info about the various clubs around the country.

Keep up the good work!  Diving is such a neat sport.

  2. Our divers at my high school do about an hour and a half of diving and another hour of visualization every day. Diving is a perfection sport, so you definetly need as much practice as you can get. Your scores seem fine, keep up the work

  3. I only have experience as a spectator (and close friend) with diving at the high school level and up, but given your gymnastics experience and two years of diving, I think you have too little difficulty in your dives. Depending on the number of divers practicing, 45 minutes may be too little time. How many dives do you do in that 45 minutes? I think you are right to be concerned that your coach is "too soft" on you.

In high school, you can count on having reverse dives being required at some point. You don't even have a reverse dive in your list. And where are the twists?

If you enjoy diving and want to take it to the next level, I think you need to discuss it with your coach. If your coach is reluctant to push you into more difficult dives, it might be time to find another coach.
