Hello,

I just started taking horseback riding lessons but I cannot afford to own one, is there anything else I can do to practice riding? I live in Long Island. Thank you very much!

  1. Volunteer with horses, and try to spend as much time around them as you can.

  2. you can go to stables and just ride one

  3. Usually where you take lessons they allow you to come and practice riding with one of their horses if you have free time. Cause I take lessons and where i take lessons they let you do that. So just ask your instructor if you are allowed to do that at their place.

  4. If you cant own one, then I suggest leasing one. I've leased horses for six out of the ten years I've been riding and it is way cheaper than owning. Also it is easier to do, if a problem occurs and you own a horse than you have to deal with selling it that can take a while, if you lease however then the owner takes the horse back once you dont want to ride it anymore. I would suggest riding for a little longer before you go and lease/buy a horse. But def. keep up with the riding lessons.

  5. Sign up 4 more lessons.

  6. I totally understand I have been riding for 4 years and cant afford a horse either i suggest taking more lessons or ask your trainer if you can work around the stables in exchange for riding time.

  7. Bummer dont know what to tell you
