the power jack and cord on my laptop broke but luckily i bought a protection agreement so I took it into best buy to get it fixed by the geek squad. This problem had nothing to do with software at all. Now that I have it back I am having huge issues. The over speed is extremely slow (its lagging as I type this) it sends up security warnings when i try to log in to any websites with a password stating that the certificate had expired and it shouldn't be trusted, Some start up programs are blocked, my music file was last accessed one of the days they had it, and It will not let me update windows though auto updates so I did it manually but it won't install. It will wait until the installation times out and just turn off the computer. Then when I boot it there are a lot of black and white dos type writing before it loads vista. Is there some stupid thing I haven't thought of that I need to fix? or does best buy mess with peoples computers? and If i take it back will they fix it for free?

  1. Ccleaner is easy to find:  http://ccleaner.com

And it would be worth finding out if there is any guarantee on their work, but you may be better going to someone else anyway.  If you explain to the new place that it seems worse since it went to the Geek squad, they may charge you less, since it sounds like it wasn't your fault but the squad.

    All the best.

  2. Take it back to Best Buy or better yet take it to a reputable computer repair place. I have heard a lot of bad things about Geek squad. It is pretty much just a bunch of "Think they are computer savy" people working there. I knew more than them when I was talking to one of their techs. Another thing you could do is remove any c**p they put on your computer and give it a good cleaning. Search out and download a free program ( if you can ) called CCleaner. I use it all the time and it works great.
