my computer isn't detecting my modem (siemens speedstream 4200). i rang my ISP and they said i needed to install drivers for the internet. so i installed the 2 other "drivers and utilities" discs that i have for the computer but still nothing, and the tech support guy said i did not need the installation CD for the modem. i know there is no problem with the modem because another computer is sharing it (the one I'm typing on now). i don't know what to do, should i just buy another internet service and install something new? I'm guessing when you use an operating system re-installation disc it doesn't come with everything!?! please help, i am a complete noob so please answer in user friendly terms

  1. first check if your PC has detected the modem. Check Network connections in control panel and see if you have any lan there. If yes than check your TCP/IP settings. But if you cannot see any lan connections in the network connections window, it may mean that driver for the modem is needed

If the internet works on the other sharing PC, then download the required driver, transfer it to the other pc then install it.

    hope this works.

  2. Your modem is actually a router. There is a significant difference between a modem and a router. Calling it a ADSL router will make it easier for people to help you over the phone.

From what I know the siemens speedstream 4200 is a one port router. You should be using a 4 port router when you are connecting with more than one computer.

Ideally, upgrade your router to a 4 port router, connect both your computers to the router using network cables. Then, run the network setup wizard on both computers.
