i would never get in a car with a drunk driver

  1. Here's the thing though: For every responsible person like you, there's like five kids who would get hammered and drive home. We can't control other peoples actions, and therefore not everyone would be able to handle a lowered drinking age.

  2. you have a point, just keep being careful.

once you reach a certain point of drunkeness, depending on your tolerance, you may lose the ability to think for yourself.

alcohol is a tricky thing. don't die - i will be sad.

  3. dont do it unless ur parents are like watching you and letting you, if you get caught and arrested ur life is screwed it doesnt just go away

  4. You're not wrong.  And let me tell you this.  Having been a clinical social worker and substance abuse counselor in the past, I am retired now.  I know when drugs or alcohol are bad for people.  I've had my own issues, to be honest.  I feel that young people should be able to drink alcohol.  Taking away the taboo factor would probably drive teenagers to drink less....just a guess.

In my studies, youngsters in Europe are able to drink alcohol.  I think, from people I hear, that the legal age is usually from 16 to 18.    But young people are able to drink there, even younger, if you don't look at the laws.  Drinking there, it seems, is not taboo.  As a child, you grow up drinking a glass of wine at the table when you're 12, enjoying the pasta and good company.  I grew up that way here, in the US.  For my parents to buy me a bottle of wine at age 13, for me to enjoy while they were drinking their rum, beer, etc, was no big deal.  They were just happy that I wasn't driving while I was drunk, or that I wasn't hanging out with the wrong crowd.  And I could never drink a whole bottle of wine at that age.  Drinking one or two glasses would put me over the top!

Listen, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to write.  Again, underage drinking to me is not bad at all as long as you do it responsibly.  But keep up with that.  Don't be stupid.  Don't be in a car with drunk people.  And, hey, if you're ever at someone's party, don't ever leave your drink unattended.  My former fiancee was at a party about five years ago, and her friend died the next day because some ******** put some GHB in her drink.  It's not worth it!

Obviously, not drinking at your age is probably the best answer.  But it won't happen.  And that's cool!  But, whoever you are, just watch yourself and have some great times!

    Tony

And, again, write me with any questions you might have!

  5. lol go right ahead im from Bucharest Romania were everybody drinks. Even on the streets anywhere you see a person with beer or vodka in your hand. & for all those people out there who says that in Eastern Europe you cant drink until 18 or 16 or watever there wrong. If you want to get drunk go to Eastern Europe and you can do watever the **** you want!!! have fun man. Just dont drive after!!

  6. i do not think so, with control. i drink all the time. just a bit. oh so good. yummy

  7. its not a big deal at all, just some so-called experts think its pretty fcked up thing to do.GO AWAY EXPERTS WE DONT NEED U!

  8. The problem is that American kids aren't taught how do drink and behave in a responsible manner, so their first exposure they drink far too much, and then inevitably decide to get behind the wheel of a car because of this sense of invincibility that is so pervasive (or do other things of varying levels of stupidity).

It's funny that for many parts of Europe, the drinking age is 16, but the driving age is 18 or 21.

The other thing is that many kids "think" they're okay, and they're not, because judgement among young people is rarely sound.  Society demonizes and glorifies alcohol, and from that, it becomes this taboo that kids can't wait to get a hold of.  I've seen too many of your type spend a couple hours powerdrinking, and you "think" you're okay, but if your reflexes/reaction times are a second slow...you could well end up killing someone.

What you "could" do is offer kids at the age of 16 either a driver's licence or the ability to drink (caught doing both and it's 5+ years in jail).  Personally I think underage kids caught driving under the influence should be looking at 5+ years in prison as a bare minimum.

The other problem is that you can't make your own choices; in America under the age of 18 you're considered a minor, and as such, are not afforded the rights (and the responsibilities that come with them) of adults; your parents are still financially (and other) responsible.

  9. Underage drinking is bad because it makes you drunk and if you're in a car..........you know what happened...........you might even cause trouble by drinking underage! So don't drink underage!

  10. The reason underage drinking is bad (contrary to what everyone is saying -_-) ISN'T because of cars. Its because when you're underage your body can't handle alcohol as well so you are in worse shape and die younger. But if you want to throw your life away ... hey, you can make your own choices.

  11. I really don't think it's that bad. I mean if you are old enough to be driving and old enough to make decisions then you can do whatever you want as long as you are not interfering with another persons safety. On the other hand, my parents would go nuts and kill my *** if they even thought I was drinking. So whatever....

  12. i dont see why its a big deal. as long as ur not driving its not that bad. i mean who doesnt drink underage these days?

  13. The drinking age hasn't always been 21, it uset to be 18, which makes more since.

Soliders can be 18 & handed guns to go kill people, but they can't drink?

    It should be lowered again.

  14. Drinking, in general, is not wise.  First of all, it's bad for your health.  When you start drinking at a young age and continue drinking as you get older you could suffer some serious health risks. Second of all, it' can endanger you.  While you're drunk you have a hard time making choices since you're not thinking clearly, which could cause you to be put into a dangerous situation.  Third of all, there are many fatalities because of drinking.  For Example, in 2005, 39% of all traffic fatalities were caused by drunk driving.  However, as long as you are drinking responsibly, there is nothing wrong with underage drinking besides the fact that you're breaking the law and endangering yourself.

  15. your an example of someone who is ok... but there are tons of examples of people who shouldnt be drinking..
