I would just like to know the child policy here in new zealand. I dont know if I will categorize myself as an illegitimate child. My father has another wife here in New Zealand and they got 2 children. What are my rights being one of my fathers children? How about my mom, does she has any rights over their properties? is divorce with his wife here, will be the answer for me and my mom to be called a legal family?

  1. Under NZ law the fact that you are 'illegitimate' has no bearing whatsoever on your rights to be classified as a child of your father. This was changed in (i think) the status of children act in the late 60s.

There are issues regarding your mother and property if she continues to be in a relationship with your father (property relationship act). But honestly, if you are concerned seek legal advice/direction through the citizens advice bureau.

There is an ocean between Australia and New Zealand!

Sorry, don't know much about the policy.. good luck..

  3. Post this in the New Zealand category.
