I watched the movies and seen many television series, where big winner or high roller, is beat up for card counting. First of all, is card counting illegal, and second of all, the casino people can't beat you up for it can they? Isn't the like assault or battery of some kind?

  1. I was acctually wondering myself. [:

  2. Card counting is not illegal.  Any business can refuse to do business with you as long as they do not discriminate.

No, they do not beat you up.

  3. Card counting is not illegal, but the casinos do not need to admit any customers we do not want.  We can tell a card counter to leave or that he cannot continue to play without stating a reason.

In the modern era there are no more beatings related to  card counting or cheating.  I have worked with people who were a part of that era, but it is in the past.  The days of gangsters in casinos are no more.

  4. Card counting is technically not illegal.  But what a casino will do is not take your action anymore and ask you to leave their property.  From then on, if you are on their property, they can nail you for trespassing.  I can't imagine any of the big vegas casinos taking you to a back room and beating you up.  Casinos now are run by corporations- they loss they take on the casino floor may be bad, but the loss they could take due to a lawsuit for someone being assaulted in a back room could be just as bad.  On the other hand, if you filed a lawsuit against a major casino, what chances would you have of winning?  The case would be tried in Nevada, with a judge that knows how much gaming brings in to the state, with a jury that, if they don't work for a casino, probably have relatives that do.  I don't know... learn how to count cards, get caught, and let me know what happens.

  5. Card counting is not illegal, there was a time not long ago when casinos were operated by mob like organisations, and you may have been beaten.

Today casinos are very professional places of buisness, the teims i have been confronted counting cards mostly went like this:

"listen, XXXX your too good for us and we dont want you playing here anymore"

although i have had a comp card tossed at my face one time, i dont think that is really asault.

  6. doubtful. the last gangsters left vegas a long time ago. however, there are a couple of books 21 is based on, you can check those.
