I would keep half to spend/save/pay off some debt then invest the other half in Forex trading using a decent trading system.

Pay down any unsecured debt you have  (credit cards).

Put the rest in the bank.  Although interest rates are crappy right now, everything else is shaky due to the economy and the coming election.  You'll want to be able to tap that money for living expenses (gas, food, etc.) in the next couple years.

Nowadays, 5000 dollars is not a lot but you can still enjoy things with it.

Anyway, I say pay off debts/credit cards and bills.  Put some away to invest in a bank and go on a nice holiday.
