  1. inform your dentist or orthodontist about the problem. in regard of finding a way not to break ur retainer. for different types of retainer the may be on offer for u. ok

  2. Get something to suck on to keep your tongue busy until you break the habit.

I just put a pebble in my mouth once in a while to keep from chewing the lining of my cheeks.

  3. There is another type of retainer called an Essix retainer that is made of acrylic that is very difficult (impossible) to break.  Ask your dentist if you could have one made.  He may have to call the lab and ask about it.  It is clear and you have to take care of it to keep it clear so that it doesn't turn yellow and gross but it would solve your breakage problem.  You will have to pay extra for it.

  4. If you keep breaking it, your going to have to pay a lot of money to get another one after a couple times. That should be motivation enough to keep it in your mouth. Just in case it isn't. You should keep candy with you at all times so you can keep your mind off of it.
