Question:

I keep dreaming about rescuing children?

I have a recurring dream that appears throughout my life. The details of the dream change (location, characters) but the story line is essentially the same - I am in a dangerous situation when I am left responsible for a large group of children. The children are somehow connected to me (but they are not my children) and I am the person responsible for protecting them.

In the dream an authority figure (usually a father, but in last night's dream it was a mother) is trying to hurt the children. usually they are trying to kill the children one by one, and I am desperately trying to run and get them all to safety.

I have had versions of this dream maybe 6 or 7 times throughout a period of 15 years. Some of the dreams are more violent then others (with the children being injured or killed and in one dream I was killed). Every dream is set in the nighttime.

It is a truly horrifying nightmare and I wake up upset and disturbed.

Does anyone have any idea what is might mean?

  1. Recurring dreams and/or themes are always trying to get a message across to the dreamer.  The children would be aspects of your inner child that you need to protect.  The age of the children in the dream would be a good indicator of what age you need to take a look at.  If the children are 10, then you need to go back and look at your life at that age to see if there is a precipitating incident.  Most likely there was a traumatic  event (such as parents splitting up) that caused a fracturing of your inner child.  When you figure out what it is and deal with it, the dreams will go away.

  2. Sorry, i can't help you that much. But, there are really good books out there that tell you about what dreams you are having. My sister bought one and she said it was really helpful. If I were you, I'd give it a shot.
