I keep getting a check engine code for MAF and VAF, but it keeps going off then back on then off, why?

  1. Is this vehicle a VW? i guess it doesnt matter....If you have a VAF they tend to wear out because of moving parts and friction. Some questions, is it at a certain engine speed? A certain road you drive down? What type of vehicle is this? So if it is at a certain speed it is most likely just worn out and time to replace it. If its just when you drive down a certain road it could be a an electrical problem to or from the sensor, possibly when you hit a bump, hit the gas to climb a hill, the insulation could be worn off the wire(s) in a certain spot, and grounding either before or after the sensor. Depending on the type of vehicle, you should either have one or the other in most cases. The MAF and VAF sensor perform the same tasks, but the VAF could be a backup to the MAF incase it fails.
