I keep getting a dialog box saying my registry is failing and I should go to UpdateReg.net and download a...?

registry cleaner from them. Is this a scam to get me to download a virus or trogan or something else nasty like finding out my bank account details and passwords, or is this a legitimate website offering me a service for free out of the kindness of their hearts (with maybe a bit of advertising)? How do I get rid of this dialog with them. Another dialog box asks me to go to www.registrycleanerxp.com

You have a spyware virus Download " Malwarebytes ' and run it. This should cure the problem

It's simply spyware. Won't do much harm, but spyware/adware can slow your computer down because they use up a lot of resources. Download HijackThis. And Google for more anti-spyware apps. Try Download.com.

Do NOT even consider downloading it, it is rogue software which WILL give you problems. It's a scam that will scan your system and find xxxx number of problems as it will on any machine and it will then ask for payment to fix the problems, which they don't.

Part of it has already infected your machine, therefore use the folowing free programs to clear it:

Malwarebytes Anti-Malware:

Download, install, update and select Full Scan.

Remove all infections that it finds after scan.

Disconnect your computer from the internet

Run vundo

Restart your computer

Run the tool again to ensure no traces are left.

If there are the reboot into Safe Mode and run FixVundo again.
