I keep getting an e-mail saying Postmaster unable to deliver - is this possibly a virus?

I saw on snopes that there is a very dangerous virus out there called Postcard; lately I have been receiving an e-mail that says - Postmaster unable to deliver - usually when an e-mail doesn't go through Yahoo sends - MailerDaemon failure notice - I have never received anything that said Postmaster - I am reluctant to open it because I am concerned that it could be a virus - can anyone out there give any info on this? Thanks so much.

  1. Its not a virus. You probably just typed in the wrong email or something and it couldn't find it so its telling you that it couldn't send it.  I get these all the time.

  2. It could be a virus if it comes with an executable attachment, like *.exe or *.com. Sometimes these files might hide themselves in a compressed zip file. In that case, simple delete it.

Another possibility is that it's simply a spam. It that case, simply delete it as well.

  3. Depends on the machines used to relay the mail. Many, especially older unix machines, use postmaster for the agent handling mail, so (1) Yes, it might be the scam, or (2) it may be legit but from a machine which uses postmaster.

If you use a monitoring program like Mailwasher (or look at the email online at the providers website) to look at what the email says, it's quite safe. Downloading ... errrr that might be risky.

Do NOT NOT NOT open or click on any email with a header CNN Top 10 ..  NASTY virus!!

  4. I wouldn't open it just delete it same with any other email you get from any unknown source just delete it mark it as spam first in yahoo

  5. Never open these things up, that you do not know the sender. Period

These people out there do not have anything better to do then corrupt peoples PCs. Hope you read articles and be warned. Good Luck
