I have a dodge ram with Pennsylvania plates (that's where I'm from). I work here in New York, and every morning I go to my truck and have a commercial vehicle parking violation ticket. My license plate says TRUCK not COMMERCIAL. How do I go about getting them to stop giving me tickets for a commercial vehicle, when I do not even own one?

  1. stop parking in a "no parking" zone

ok, that was kinda smart-aleck, sorry bout that.......

"I really don't know who to call,"

What do people do who want to plead innocent?   I mean, this is still America where we're "innocent until proven guilty", right?

sorry, I just answered your question with a question, guess I'm just kind of astounded that there's no other way of dealing with a ticket other than "pay up".

  2. Go to the local police station and ask why this is happening. In some states all trucks are considered commercial. This might be why this is happening to you. If so, you must obey the laws in the state which you are parking.

  3. Contact Public Safety or Dept of Transportation and ask what the guidelines are.

  4. If your vehicle has any kind of company signage or logos on it, it is considered a commercial vehicle in regards to parking enforcement.  Doesn't matter if it is a pickup truck, or a van.  Heavy trucks are self-explanatory.

There are some neighbourhood associations that don't even allow you to park a vehicle with business logos, etc in your own driveway.

  5. You just need to call the city traffic division in New York or the local police department.
