I keep having dreams about trying to fight people?

but I can't actually hit them, or It doesn't hurt them, and I try and try and try and nothing happens. what does this mean?

It is probably about you struggling with something within yourself. It could be how you deal with a situation, knowing rationally you should do one thing, but wanting with your heart to do something else even tho you know it will not work out.  Its a lesson for you in inner strength and realising that if we do what we know is right, even if the result is upsetting, we are opening a new door for something better to come in, even though it may not feel like it at the time.

You should read The Dream Game by Ann Faraday, it can teach you to easily understand your own dreams. It's not wise to depend on the interpretations of others since they aren't you and your dreams depend solely on how you perceive things.

It means your having some trouble trying to express yourself.  That said a fun movie to watch is Kill Bill with Uma Thurman.  If that doesn't put a simple on your face after the question you just asked, I don't know what will :-).

my dream book reads... fighting in a dream indicates you have many enemies, being in a fight in a dream is an unfavourable omen if you are in business, travelling or in love. hope that helped
