Goat cheese?

I keep seeing it in a lot of recipes lately, especially on the food network. Any good recipes that you know of? How can you describe the taste?

  1. its pretty good...not too bad

  2. Goat cheese can range in flavor from savory like a nice Motzerella, or a crubly, chewey nice cheese like feta.

  3. ok so this is just my personal taste -  i know a lot of people who love goat's cheese...but for me - it is the most vile thing i ever tasted. i tried 2 types - the first one was firm and i didn't like it. it didn't smell bad so i tried eating it but you know what goats smell like - it tasted like that. yuck.

because it's being promoted form all sides i decided i'd give it one more try when a friend had this in a restaurant... it was a kind of melted and looked a bit like camembert. again it didn't smell bad but when i put a piece in my mouth i nearly vomited. some of the worst seconds of my life, then i managed to swallow it and a pint and a half of cider got rid of the taste in my mouth. i found it really weird that it tastes the same as what the animals smell like but it doesn't actually smell like it. very deceptive.

  4. Goat cheese?  Its actually quite different and well, texture is not all that bad either.

Pizza, my favorite.  A friend emailed me this, and it is truly excellent,

    1 1/2 tablespoons butter

    2 medium leeks, thinly sliced

    1 tablespoon fresh parsley, minced

    3/4 cup tomato, chopped

    3 - 5 ounces of goat cheese

    2 tablespoons olive oil

    Directions

1Melt butter in large skillet over medium-low heat. Add leeks; saute until tender, about 10 minutes.

    2Season with salt and pepper.

    3Stir in parsley.

    4Cool.

5Spread leek topping evenly over pizza shell; sprinkle tomatoes over.

6Top with cheese. Drizzle 1 tablespoon oil over.

    7Bake about 10 to 15 minutes at 450 F.

8Remove from oven and brush crust with olive oil.

Also try a double baked potato with goat cheese.  YES!

    Take care,

  5. the best goat cheese i've ever had was very strong, like feta or asiago.

i was put off at first, too, so don't worry. but if you like your cheese to have strong flavor, you'll like it. the flavor kind of brings out the warmth of meats and cooked veggies.

its so hard to explain tastes. i wish i were earnest Hemingway...
