Question:

I keep l*****g my lips for no reason?

I don't have Tourette's (as far as I know), but it's like I just do it randomly. One of my mates told me, "Dude, you're like Heath Ledger or something!". I doubt it's serious, but anyone know what it is?

Note, I'm told that I might have some mental problems (apparently, I might be anti-social, and bi-polar).

  1. Who knows?  You might have allergies that make your lips feel dry, or spending too much time in the air conditioning.

It might be a nervous habit.  For the last several years, on and off, I have been clacking my teeth.  People think I am mad all the time, when I'm not; it's just a habit I've picked up. If your lips get dry and painful from all the l*****g, try some lip balm to keep them moist.

  2. I do it sometimes.  A lot of people do.  It is no big deal.  Sometimes you do it subconsciously if your lips are dry.  Try using chapstick.  It could also be a nervous tick.  How does that make you like Heath Ledger? That makes no sense.  Tell your mates to back off.  Unless you do it nonstop then I wouldn't worry.  It could be an obsessive behavior.  See a doctor if it bothers you.

  3. Well you may like have licceotosessifvandoesee diesease, my mothers friend had it when she was younger like 18, then she had to buy a certain type of nail polish that you put on your nails to make you stop biting them, but she put it on her lips and it made her non licceotosessifvandoeseeing.

    goood luck !

  4. You don't have to have Tourette's to have a tic. It sounds like you just have a tic, or an impulsive habit. Tourette's is defined as having something like one physical and one audible tic.

It will probably help if you get good sleep (tics act up when you are tired) and when you find yourself doing it, just stop yourself and go about your business.

  5. No that's ridiculous. I'm sure it's just a slight tick that your friend picked up on. Besides, everyone licks their lips every now and then.

  6. It's a tic. If you are having real issues because of it, like your lips are bleeding so that you can't eat or speak, it's a problem. If not, it's a tic, and you should try not to think about it and let yourself pass out of the phase.

Anytime you have some problem functioning, at work or school or with eating or sleeping or keeping friends or not going broke, you should consider that you may have mental problems. If you just think you are being kinda weird, but you're still functioning fine, you should try to realize that looking for mental problems is just another silly weird thing you do and it's no big deal. Mental quirks are not necessarily problems, and treating a non-problem is asking for trouble.
