I killed my girlfriends hamster, should I tell her?

My girlfriend is a little bit weird and absolutley loves her animals as if they were people. She has this hamster that has been alive for years which is strange because hamsters usually die after a couple of years but anyway, today I was over my girlfriends house and had it out of its cage. It crawled out of my hand and I tried to catch it but it fell and when I picked it up it was knocked out or dead. But I put it back in its cage without saying anything and this morning my girlfriend told me he was dead. She was absolutley distraught. She has no idea I killed it but I feel real guilty. She is really ridiculously heartbroken over this. What should I do? and is there a possibility that it died of natural causes that same day?

Possible, but i doubt its likely. Don't tell her you killed it- it sounds like she'd try to kill you. I know honesty is the best policy, but in this case, it'll only make the situation worse and won't help anything. If you get married, tell her in twenty years if you feel the need to tell her at all.

i think you should explain what happened to your girlfriend (for both your sakes) - maybe give her some time to time to grieve for him/her first though?  Whatever you think is best

sorry, i know it was an accident, but it would be one h**l of a coincidence if the hamster died of natural causes on the same day/day after you dropped him/her.  possible though, i guess

main question: Your choice. your girlfriend might respect you better if you tell the truth but if you girlfriend doesnt learn it from you your going to get in BIG trouble with her. But if she doesnt find out your safe. But the fact that you put it on a public website doesnt help much

it is possible, but it probably died from shock. You should tell her. It wasn't really your fault.

The chances that hammy just dropped dead of natural causes after being dropped are un-naturally low.

If you can live with the guilt, then by all means let her think he died peacefully. If you cannot, then sit her down and tell her the truth. Your conscious will be clear, and depending how mad she gets so could your social calendar for a while.

It is not ridiculous. A lot of people care as much for their animals as their children or family.

Tell her exactly what happened. Explain to her that it was an accident, and that it probably wasn't all that killed it. He could have been suffering from old age as well.

Comfort her and don't call her ridiculous.

As for you, keep your hands off animals that you do not know how to handle. From the way your speaking about your girlfriend you come off like a jerk that has to care for animals.

So grow up and stop acting tough douche.....

I think you should tell her because she will go easy on you and not be all THAT mad.But if she breaks up with you then you'll know why.I really doubt that the hamster died from natural causes that same day....

Yes you should tell her, even if she gets mad at you its better than the guilt coming at you everyday. And maybe it did die of natural causes so dont pressure yourself that much

tell her. she won't break up with you because you dropped her hamster. if she does... then she's kinda... yeah. not worth it haha

but she'll probably get mad, but she'll forgive you eventually. or she could just then and there and accept that it was an accident...

The hamster is dead, mister. You can only make things worse for yourself if you tell her that you had anything to do with it.

The sooner you tell her, the better.

If you tell her in a like a month, she'll be mad that you didnt tell her before.

And its not wierd for a person to love animals. Some see them as family or really good friends. And hamsters can live over 2 years. In fact they can live up to 4 years or more by the way theyre treated. Its not ridiculous.

And by the way your GF treated him and loved it alot, I doubt he wanted to commit suicide. Its not "fairness" to blame the hamster for killing itself when you "dropped it". Just dont handle other peoples animals anymore...especially the tiny ones. :(
