Question:

I killed the TV, or did I?

OK so I got one of those universal TV remotes coz' my TV's old and I'd been changing channels manually since the original remote died a few years back.

It tuned in to the TV by itself, and turned it off, all like it says in the manual, but now the TV won't turn on at all! All that happens is the standby light comes on, but the TV itself won't 'fire up'.

I don't understand how just the remote tuning in has killed my TV.

Any suggestions how to fix it please?

  1. Read the instructions again very carefully. I have a universal remote and mine came with a sheet listing the different codes for the various brands of TV's,VCR's,DVD players etc. and when you find the right code the device your programing will turn off when you find the right code. When I first got mine my TV did something similar ( I can't recall exactly) like it would turn on but the channels would not change or something but with some careful re-checking of the code I finally got the right code and all of the functions then worked correctly. So carefully read the instructions or use the auto search for code method that some devices have.

  2. If it will still turn on and off manually then the remote is not set for your tv. Usally with universal remotes there is more than 1 code. Go over the manual for the remote and repeat the steps.

  3. well you can probley take it back. And you can ask them how does it worck. but if you taake it back are sell it. you can get money.and you want money.
