I figured that all the people in China's Opening Ceremony worked extremely hard to pull off the show that they did, but I didn't really think about it. I read an article (cited below) that said among other things:

People worked 16 hours a day, every day, rehearsing. They lived for three months at a restricted army camp on the outskirts of Beijing.

A a 26-year-old dancer may be permanently paralyzed from the waist down from a fall. People often suffered heat stroke and other injuries.

Students were kept on their feet for an almost 51-hour rehearsal with little food and rest to coordinate performances with multimedia effects.

"We had only two meals for the entire time. There was almost no time to sleep, even less time for toilet breaks,” Cheng (20) said.

Read full story and let me know what you think. Thanks.

  1. Regardless of the story It was the most incredible opening ever.

I can't imagine how the 2012 london people feel about having to top that.

  2. they are all volunteers, they did it for the pride of the nation. If i had the chance I would do it too.

this kind of journalism really sucks, they make the good spirit of this volunteers sound like a concentration camp.

  3. It just shows hard work pays off but the hardships of sacrifice is still there.

It just a human nature. You want something great. You have to sacrifice everything you have in your position of luxury and the pain and agony will make it successful.

  4. The true spirt of China at its finest.

  5. I think some of the things might be a little misleading such as the 51 hour rehearsal. I do not doubt the 16 hour work day, but I don't think things like a 51 hour rehearsal happened throughout the practice because that would just exhaust the workers to the point in which they can't perform. Regardless, all of these people were volunteers and they said that it was worth it. It wasn't as though the director did not suffer with them.

  6. Only 2 meals in 3 months !!!!!!!!!
