Hi I finally got my wife pregnant. Yey. Anyway I need help. What foods should she eat and shouldn't eat. She is 6 weeks in.

I heard spicy foods and seafoods are not good for the baby. So please help. Cheers

  1. I read advice from every website, book, and magazine that I could find once I found out I was pregnant. This is what it said

    AVOID

    alcohol, and caffeine

deli meats (esp. hot dogs) as they may carry bacteria

unpasturized cheese (feta, goats cheese, etc)

undercooked meat (so if she gets a steak, get it done at least medium!)

    TRY TO AVOID

too much sugar or fruit juice (may cause gestational diabetes... tell her to eat her fruit, not drink it!)

also, avoid foods that are easily absorbed by the intestines, like big potatoes, and overboiled pasta (instead, have baby potatoes and al dente pasta) and if she has fries, then put vinegar on them!

Seafood, I don't know about because I have never liked it, so I didn't pay attention to seafood rules! Spicy food is absolutely fine during pregnancy, but I heard that eating it while breastfeeding can cause the baby to be up all night.

  2. I’ve heard that there are certain foods I should avoid during pregnancy. Is that true?

    - Shantelle

Yes. Although most foods are safe to eat, some might be problematic during pregnancy. For example, you should avoid or limit your exposure to foods that are more likely to be contaminated with bacteria (such as raw meat and fish), since food-borne infections may cause birth defects or miscarriage. And foods that might contain high levels of mercury (such as certain types of fish) can cause damage to the developing brain of a fetus.

Foods to steer clear of altogether during pregnancy include:

        * soft, unpasteurized cheeses (often advertised as "fresh") such as feta, goat, Brie, Camembert, blue-veined cheeses, and Mexican queso fresco

        * unpasteurized milk, juices, and apple cider

        * raw eggs or foods containing raw eggs, including mousse, tiramisu, raw cookie dough, eggnog, homemade ice cream, and Caesar dressing

        * raw or undercooked fish (sushi), shellfish, or meats

        * pâté and meat spreads

        * processed meats such as hot dogs and deli meats (these should be very well cooked before eating)

        * fish that may contain high levels of mercury (shark, swordfish, king mackerel, tilefish, and tuna steak). Limited amounts of canned, preferably light, tuna are OK.

You may have to forego a few things during pregnancy that you normally enjoy. But just think how delicious they’ll taste after waiting 9 months!

  3. you should have her see a doc they will give specific foods on wat she can and cant eat CONGRATS!!!

    GOOD LUCK!!

  4. No Deli meats ... No sushi or any kind or seafood that is raw ... of course no raw eggs or raw meat...

dont over do it ... my husbad is soooo over protective to the point it got old fast!! haha ~ shes hormonal and you dont want to frustrate her even more ...

My husband got so bad he checks all the stuff I eat and makes sure it doesnt contain coloring RED 40 ,,,

He wanted to ban caffine for good but my doctor told me I can have 2 caffine sodas or 2 cups of caffine coffee a day and I will be fine :)

If you want more help on this buy the book "What to Expect When Your Expecting" or just go to the website ...

    congratulations :)

BTW I have eaten spicy food ... salsas and tabascco all through my pregnancy and it didnt affect the baby ... only me cos of heart burn... hehe

  5. Yes, you got that about right with the spicy and seafood!!! Also she might be experiencing morning sickness soon, and then her body will be able to tell her what she can eat!!! Congrats hun

  6. No seafood in the months without an "r". That's a normal rule.

Calm down dad! I ate broccoli and mashed potatoes. Asparagus, fruits, veggies, salads and gained alot of weight the last 3 months. I actually ate, for a change. The first 6 months, I ate like normal, gained 5 pounds.

Normal for me, means not eating for 2-3 days. The doctors never asked me about my diet, until I started eating.

I ballooned in month 7, after veggies. Mostly broccoli. I ate green stuff, with one half hoagie. I had Mexican food once.

As long as she eats veggies and fruits, don't worry about it. As long as she eats and walks, everything is fine. She should show by month 3. I barely had a pouch at month 5 and was wearing my regular clothes. Maternity clothes were too big.

If you comment about everything she eats and make her feel bad, she won't eat. You need to chill. Just from your question, I would toss your ***. Starting next month, she may crave shrimp or lobster. Say , "Yes honey",

It's full of selenium, more than any other food. It's important for cell growth. Cravings happen for a reason. There's something in foods, we don't get in vitamins. Shrimp is not bad. It's a good food.

Salmon depends on where it was raised, or caught and whether or not it contains Mercury, while you're trying to figure it out, your wife can munch tacos that day.

Heaven help you, if you tried to tell me what to eat. Let's see If she keeps you around, after you try to control her diet.

  7. OKAY GO TO THE DOCS FIRST OF ALL<  THEY TELL YOU WHAT YOU SHOULD AND SHOULD NOT EAT, jeeeeeeez.

    Okay, spicy is okay.

NO raw fish, big cooked fish (shark, salmon, etc.) No deli meats which includes uncooked hot dogs, no caffeine, and no alcohol.  If she wants a sandwhich she needs to heat the meat....no rare cooked meats as well.....and dont let her touch the kitty litter box.

  8. Spicy food is fine. Seafood is also okay, but she needs to be careful about what KIND of seafood.  My dr gave me a list of bad seafood, but it wasn't anything I ate normally anyway.  Seafood like shrimp and salmon are fine.  They actually have some really good nutrients in them.  Just make sure they're cooked all the way through.  I was nervous about seafood too until my dr gave me the "no" list.  I can't remember but it had things like, Macrol (or however it's spelled) and swordfish I think... but nothing people typically think of when they think seafood.

  9. You better take some advice from doctor or anyone who experienced the same situation. Or you prefer follow the Food Pyramid. You know food pyramid, do you?
