Question:

[I know, everyone asks this] Regarding the scar tissue on the inside of my lip piercing...?

I've had my lip piercing for a 9 days. I spray it with H2Ocean at least 5 times a day; not including when I wake up and go to bed. I always brush my teeth the normal two times a day; plus after every time I eat [not too healthy for the enamel on my teeth, but it's for the sake of the piercing, right?]. Basically, it's always clean.

Two days ago I did end up swimming in some not-so-clean water; and it did re-swell; but I know it's not infected or anything --- if it helps at all. I basically drenched my lip in a sea salt solution afterwards.

I'm sure it's scar tissue, but anyways..

Should you be able to move it, or no?

How long does it take for the scar tissue to go away [on average]?

Is it ok to move it around, on accident, with your tongue?

When it goes away; how much of it might stay permanently? Will any of it stay?

One last question that needs some detail.

I did inspect the piercing after I got home from the piercing place; and I noticed that I had this piece of skin on the inside that was just existing over where the piercing is. It would pull back when I pushed up at my lip; but then go back in place otherwise. I don't know if anyone else has ever had that, or anything. But after the swelling issues happened and were over with, I noticed that the piece of skin was replaced by some scar tissue. So when my lip is in the normal position, with nothing seperating any part of it; the scar tissue ends up going over where the piercing and the bottom part of my lip ring are.

Oh yeah, I have a lip ring. =/

But, when it's all healed; will there be skin over the hole whenever I take the lip ring out? Or will there just be the clear hole?

Yeah, a lot of questions. Sorry 'bout that.

Any answer's a good answer at this point. =]

Thanks.

  1. ok now that u have a lip ring your teeth will get cracked and when you take them out you will have a scar forever. (my friend had snake bites)

well in like another week it should be fine but it will always have a red hole NOT clear. you should beable to turn it around if its a loop ring and be abel to rotate it if its a regular diamond or somethign. well i would say put some hydrogen peroxide on it( on both sides /outside and in) NOTE: you can put hydrogen peroxide in your mouth its fine. but also if you keep the piercing in for years you will have a perment scar from it (like my friend has)

hope i helped and i hope its not infected but if it is you MUST take the piercing out for it to heel sry take care

  2. It sounds like your body is still rejecting it. Try using a different ring, I am not sure what they are called but you can get ones that are for people who still have trouble years after having them done. Check with your local piercing place.

  3. You don't need to brush your teeth after every time you eat. A regular 2-3 times per day is enough. Too much toothpaste and mouthwash will irritate the piercing. Do a sea salt soak after you eat and rinse your mouth out with the solution after meals/snacks.

You really need to do proper soaks, spraying a solution on is not going to help much. Warm sea salt water (1/4 tsp to 1 cup warm water) will help soften the 'crusties" (lymph) and help promote blood flow to the area.

Try to avoid swimming for at least 8 weeks. Once bacteria gets into a wound it's very difficult to clear up without antibiotics.

Don't move the piercing. It will irritate the wound and lead to scar tissue. It can also drag lymph and bacteria into the wound.

If you have scar tissue already it can take a while (months) to clear up. Irritation causes scar tissue, don't irritate the piercing and it should go away on it's own. With the piercing being so fresh, it's not recommended to put anything other than sea salt solution on it.

It sounds like you may have had a skin tag. It's not a big deal, just a little flap of skin caused by the needle. It should dry up and go away on it's own. I usually only see it with larger gauge piercings (over 8ga) but it's possible on smaller ones too.

When you take the ring out, you will have a hole. If you leave it out for a long while the hole will shrink. Don't expect to be able to take it out for more than a few minutes for 6 months to a year or the hole will shrink very quickly.

  4. Wow! Sounds like a lot of trouble and worry for vanity
