I know a Salafi that refuses to drive/use public transportation.?

Question

He says that these are innovations and have nothing to do with Islam. He told me he plans on buying a horse and using that instead (to go to work/college), and he plans to keep the horse in his backyard. His backyard is barely big enough to even fit a swimming pool, so how can he fit this horse?

My question is, how can I convince him to calm down a little bit and learn how to adapt to modern society? you havent seen orthodox till you seen this guy.

My other question is if you had the wealth, would you choose a horse over a car?

Let him ride a horse. It might be illegal in some countries but he will find out.

Nothing is wrong with cars electricity and all that stuff because humans are built to excel. Example. Every action has a reaction. Every step is progress.

1. Adam and Eve. Electricity. Plants animals. Even hair. Skin color and all that. None of it has been the same and it isn't suppose to be.

It is all about how you utilize the things in this life to benefit EACHOTHER on the path to riteousness and inner and outer stability.

Our end result is with Allah. Allah has willed us to use our minds but we are incharge of how we use it.

And Allah, Glory be to Allah, has dominion of the heavans and the earth. To Allah belongs all things. And to Allah shall we ALL return.

salafis are opportunistic when in comes to the application of the term biddah, they apply it to things other sects believe in to discredit them and not on innovations that make their life easier or innovations that they themselves believe in.

No, I would choose a car for the sake of personal security. You can get in the car and lock the doors. Not so on a horse although you do not have to worry about gasoline. But it is inconvenient & expensive to feed a horse.

he must be using some thing modern , any thing like a glass of water, a spoon a dish a knife anything. Tell him then why are you using this and refuse to use the car. You can even tell him that his Jalabya or other clothes are made by the Kuffar(probably because most muslim countries are underdeveloped) so why specificly not wanting to use the car

This is far from Salafiyyah and is insipid behavior from him. He should fear Allaah and listen to the speech of the Ulemaa on the definition of Bid'ah. Shaykh Saaleh al Fawzaan wrote a book where he explained Bid'ah in detail. Shaykh Al-Albaanee used to love driving and he often drove.

This is strange behavior from him, I've never met a salafee (nor anyone else) who held this view.

This guy needs to know that innovations means innovations in religion, NOT technology. In that case, maybe he should buy a mud hut just like in the Prophet's times? Or be living in Mecca?

If the technology opposes Islam, then he shouldn't use it, but how does a car oppose Islam?

I'd buy a horse - but first I'd be trained with full body armour to prevent bruises. Horses are cute. Scary though.

Why not WALK instead? Does he want to make a laughing stock of himself?
