Since I'm just a beginner (haven't started yet) which one would be the best to buy?

  1. I would reccomend the Ridell White Ribbon boots. They offer decent support for beginning skating.

  3. Those are fine if you only plan on skating a few times a year and have no intentions on taking any lessons or anything.  Those skates are for recreational skating, which is more like going to the rink or pond a few times a year and skating in circles.  As mentioned before, if you plan on taking group lessons or skating with any frequency, you're probably better off getting a better quality skate, such as Riedells.  They are a bit more expensive, but they are made of better materials, last longer and provide more support for skills taught in lessons, even beginning lessons.  The skaters I have had that start lessons in the type of skates you find at d**k's Sporting Goods quickly find out that they have to go out and get new skates by the time they reach basic 5 (USFSA) because they're having a hard time doing things with the skates they have.  As I usually say, the skater's skills outgrow the skates.  It's not that you can't skate on those as a beginner, it's just that you may find out you'll need a better pair of skates sooner than later.  The way I look at it -- may as well pay more to buy the better pair now than go with the less expensive pair and end up buying both in the end anyway!  :)
