I know about the lock release on the end of the wire for releasing the last wire on the Linksys router. ?

What I need to know is why won't the laptop stay connected to the internet wirelessly after I release the wires?

Many possibilities.  You  need a password.  The router has MAC-address filtering enabled, and the computer's physical address isn't on the list, or it has filtering to exclude and the address *is* on the list.  The router is defective.  (Or it's staying connected to the router, but the router isn't connected to the internet.)  It actually takes experience to look at the router, and the computer, and spot the problem.
