  1. My doctor has just prescribed me temazepam, for two weeks, and I will not get any more.  As she said, if they do not help, tablets are not the answer.  I know many people dont like temazepam as they can make you feel really groggy the next day, they don't do that to me.  I know a few people who take Zopoclone and think it is really good, they are much less addictive than the older sleeping tablets, and I knew a couple of people who have been prescribed sedatives as opposed to sleeping tablets who think they are much more effective.  Tablets should only ever be a short term solution.

  2. ambien

  3. I think you need to just try different things to find what works for you.  I was prescribed lunesta and this did nothing for me but Ambien CR helped.

  4. Of course I disagree with sleeping tablets and would rather investigate the cause of your insomnia, have a chat with your GP. Also without knowing your medical history etc it's incorrect to suggest a medication.

  5. i guess i would ask my doctor to prescribe something- they know what is the best for your body. have you also tried omitting coffee, and caffeine drinks after supper? sometimes a chamomile tea works to put you to sleep-its mild, just herbs.

  6. The best OTC sleeping tablet is probably unisom succinate.

  7. none

you can become addicted, your body will get used to them and than they will not help anymore

Valerian is a natural calming pill

    warm milk and honey

relaxing music, a relaxing warm bath

they will also help and not harm you

  8. no you cant

  9. I am afraid there ain't such an animal as a good sleeping pill.

Overall they are basically a disaster, it takes only 3 consecutive nights taking sleeping pills  to get withdrawal symptoms on the 4th night. Long term use on average results in the patient getting to sleep 20 minutes sooner and sleeping only 30 minutes longer than they did pre-medication. Also of course if they try to sleep without them, things are much worse than pre-medication. The mere act of taking an active sleeping pill is an unwise one as they are true drugs of addiction, fulfilling both the needed criteria for this, tolerance and withdrawal.

In practice I allowed only 3 exceptional groups of patients ANY sleeping pills, the terminally ill, the psychotic, ( who needed them as an adjunct to their anti-psychotic medication,) and elderly confused, supervised patients in nursing homes, as without them basically the nursing homes could not function.

In these circumstances I generally chose the older drug chloral betaine, though it was addictive,as they all are, tolerance tended to develop more slowly.

  10. this might sound funny but get benadryl they told me i could take that for a sleeping pill b/c it not addictive

  11. I have had insomnia problems for many years off and on, sometimes it was more severe then others. I had been prescribed Ambien and did not realize that it had psychotic side effects until my new BF pointed them out to me and I spoke to a pharmacist that confirmed it, it can be very dangerous.

    Definitely ask the doctor first.

Also, a pharmacist can give good info.

Try things that are natural next, like melatonin, as others suggested, cut out bad habits like caffeine. That means teas, coffees, sodas etc.

I took a non narcotic sleep aid prescribed by my doctor called Lunesta. It worked well for me, but everyone is different with different needs and different metabolisms. The Ambien and Lunesta were the ONLY things that would put me to sleep.

I even did a sleep study where they hooked me up to some monitors and I spent the night in a nice bedroom type setting. Turned out they said I was unable to go into deep sleep. They did not give me a reason why though.

I hope you figure this out in a safe manner. it is very difficult to carry on normal daily tasks when one can't get proper sleep.

BTW I sleep fine now, ever since I moved in with my BF (not suggesting that is an answer)

    Good luck and be careful

  12. I've been on amitriptyline for a few months now for chronic migranes and I've found it really helps with my insomnia. Most doctors won't have any problem with perscribing it as it has no street value due to the very low addiction rates

  13. I take Zoplicone, but as you said everyone's different, your best finding out which works best for you.

  14. My doctor prescribed ambien CR 12.5 mg, after I lost a good friend. I did not get addicted to them, I used them for about a month, and they worked very well.

  15. The only sleeping tablet that works for me is Stilnox (Zolpidem), knocks me out every time! I get a good 8 hours sleep with no hang over.

It is great for me as I work rotating shifts.

  16. I think it is Nytol are way better than any others, onLy the original ones don't bother with the Nytol Herbal, which are really bad.
